Top 5 and Bottom 5 Movies of 2012

top-5-and-bottom-5 of 2012

Note: like every other year, I haven’t seen every movie released in 2012. So if there are any movies you think should be on here that aren’t, don’t savage me for it. In fact, there’s been some movies I’ve seen that I thought I’d put on this list that I never put on, so there’s been a lot of mulling over (which is a good sign, isn’t it?) Without further ado, here is my Top 5 and Bottom 5 list for 2012.

The YA Rat Race of 2013

It’s been a painful four years for anyone who’s not a fan of The Twilight Saga, but now it’s finally over! (Though rumours of a reboot keep popping up). Now that Twilight is finally behind us, the search is on for Hollywood to find a new franchise that will be just as successful. Will any of these movies stink just as much as The Twilight Saga did? Or was it just bad luck that led to its success?

Muse-step: Defying a Genre or Selling Out?

For some time now, Muse’s upcoming sixth album The 2nd Law has been the centre of loads of controversy for one simple reason: they’ve been setting up to go dubstep. More interestingly, they’re doing dubstep with real instruments as opposed to a laptop. On the new single Madness, they’ve opted to go down the generic laptop route splitting fans even further. The question remains: will Muse’s new variation on dubstep defy the genre, or are they simply buying into the musical gimmick of the decade?

Summer 2012 Preview

This summer is set to be a cracker – as long as each major release actually delivers. Some are predicting it will be the biggest summer of all time, and that may very well come to fruition. There will cold hard cash coming out of Hollywood’s ears! Here is my prediction of what movies will be the biggest of them all.

The Avengers Disassembled: Ranking the MCU movies

In wait of seeing The Avengers, I’ve gone over every Marvel film made by Marvel Studios because not so secretly, they are intertwined. We’ve been waiting and biting our nails with each movie that’s come, and in some of them, we’ve found the Avengers nods too much. This is my list, written in the order of least favorite, to favorite.

Six tips for Catching Fire

After having seen The Hunger Games twice, there are some things I would like to see improved for the sequel, even though I thought the book wasn’t as good as the original. Here are my six points of call to improve on Games for the sequel.

(WARNING: If you haven’t read the books or seen the movie, stop reading now: MAJOR spoilers ahead)

Fast forward casting: Catching Fire

The Hunger Games is now less than 70 days away from release, and it has been named as the most anticipated movie of this year – and a November 2013 release has been confirmed for the sequel, Catching Fire. Whilst the book doesn’t quite reach the standards of the original, there are plenty of lively (and less lively) new characters introduced to the series. This is my list of actors who I think are the best fits for the series’ new characters.

The 10 Greatest Gaga Songs

Lady Gaga is easily one of the biggest greats of pop over the last five years, and she has proved many genre naysayers wrong about her musicianship which is surprisingly strong. Since she not only sings, but she writes, produces, is a multi-instrumentalist and writes her songs for piano. Her most successful songs have become some of the most famous pop songs of the century, and here is my list of what her greatest songs are:

Top 5 and Bottom 5 Movies of 2011

This year at the movies, I was generally impressed by most of the movies I watched – and although this year’s best movies haven’t been quite up to scratch with the best of previous years, it has been a more consistent year all round. There weren’t any movies that were quite the apple in my eye the same way Inception was, neither were there any movies that ticked every box in the awful category like The Last Airbender. This is my list of favorite and least favorite movies of 2011.

My Top 5 Most Anticipated Films of 2012

Next year seems to look like the climax of all cinematic history, since we’ve got long awaited superhero sequels and mash-ups, the ending of a hugely popular novel-to-movie franchise and the beginning of another, an animation powerhouse in need to redeem itself and a long awaited prequel to a much-loved book series that’s set to blow the box office through the roof. If that’s not enough to get you absolutely ecstatic, what will? So here is my list of the movies I’m most anticipating next year.
